In the middle of the chapter, we learn that David was not the only one stockpiling goods for the Temple. “All that Samuel the seer had dedicated, and Saul son of Kish, and Abner son of Ner, and Joab son of Zeruiah—or [what] any other man had dedicated, was under the charge of Shelomith and his brothers” (verse 28).

This verse brings up a few interesting points. The first is that we never actually hear about these dedications before. It seems like King David was the first one to have in mind that there should be a Temple. It is possible that these dedications were for the mishkan, the Tabernacle, and were leftover. As the general of King David, it is odd that they are included with Samuel and Saul. David should have been listed. Naming the generals honors them for the conquests they spearheaded. Remember that David did not always go out to war. Or perhaps all of these dedications were anonymous, and now these sources are revealed.

Finally, though Saul is usually downplayed in Chronicles, here he is elevated.
