The Buddhists know this well, and so did the Psalmist &#8211; and so will we all, sooner or later. Second, that Torah can be and should be a means of relieving us from our sorrows. This tradition of ours is meant, above all, to bring joy into our lives and into the world. Finally &#8211; and most startlingly &#8211; the Torah provides this joy not because it is meaningful or inspirational, but because it is delightful &#8211; a plaything. The study of Torah, done right, is a pleasure, a jubilation, a celebration of the richness and wonder of divine language.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It certainly has been this for me, and I thank God for it every day.
