It is my study all day long.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a hard-working Jewish Bible scholar, could I pick anything but v. 97 as my favorite verse in Psalm 119: \u201cO how I love Your <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">torah<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">! It is my study all day long.\u201d This verse summarizes this psalm\u2014a petitionary psalm (also called a lament of the individual), written in Second Temple Hebrew, where the worshipper hopes that his study of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">torah<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (whatever that might refer to here) will help save him from his enemies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As others have observed, throughout this psalm <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">torah<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> replaces God; for example, instead of loving God, as in Deuteronomy 6:5 (\u201cYou shall love the LORD your God\u201d), you must love <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">torah<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and its commandments (see also vv. 47, 48, 113, 119, 127, 159, 163, 165).\u00a0 For this psalmist, God is not in the Temple, but in a scroll that serves as the very embodiment of the God, a scroll that brings much joy (see v. 162).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","image":false,"embedded_video":"","video_duration":"","show_fb_comments":true,"credit_media":""},"tile":{"top_caption":"\u05de","main_caption":"God Is In A Scroll","main_caption_size":"1","sub_caption":"97.
