Again and again, while professing love of God\u2019s teaching, and cursing those disconnected from it, he refers to some experience in the past that brought him close. Verse 76 refers to this experience too \u201cI know, O LORD, that Your rulings are just; rightly have You humbled me.\u201d Humbled, or more precisely, caused me suffering. This seems to contradict the exclamations of life\u2019s goodness in the previous verses, until we realize that they are also referring to this life-changing experience. Verse 71 brings the two together: \u201cIt was good for me that I was humbled, so that I might learn Your laws.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This sense of <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">yadati<\/span><\/em><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cI know\u201d that everything is for the best, is sometimes difficult to connect to. Certainly, during and just after a time of suffering, it\u2019s not natural and maybe it shouldn\u2019t be. Jewish tradition advises us to express a similar sentiment after hearing terrible news: \u201cBlessed is the true judge.\u201d But the same tradition says that a mourner doesn\u2019t have to recite any other prayers of words of faith. Later, we pray and scream for serenity to return &#8211; even the writer here quickly moves on from \u201cI know that your rulings are just\u201d to a prayer that acknowledges the difficulty of it all (verse 77): \u201cMay Your mercy reach me, that I might live.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","image":false,"embedded_video":"","video_duration":"","show_fb_comments":true,"credit_media":""},"tile":{"top_caption":"\u05d9","main_caption":"The Difficulty Of It All","main_caption_size":"1","sub_caption":"77.
