There are plenty of biblical moments in which people are blessed, \u201c<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">baruch atah<\/span><\/em><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2026\u201d <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cblessed are you\u2026\u201d and there are numerous occasions in which God is blessed, \u201c<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">baruch Adonai<\/span><\/em><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2026\u201d <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cblessed is the Eternal\u2026\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yet, to combine these blessings to refer to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Adonai<\/em> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Eternal, also by the simple, plain second person singular pronoun, \u201cYou,\u201d is remarkably rare. This \u201cblessing formula,\u201d as it is often now called, becomes central to Jewish liturgy throughout the ages, so much so that it typifies what we think of when we think of Jewish ways of praying. Every time you say a <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">brachah<\/span><\/em><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a blessing, I invite you to celebrate the innovation of Psalm 119:12 in its novel amalgam of the grandeur of God\u2019s name, together with the friendly, direct address to God as a partner sitting opposite us, a conversant, an immanent Other.<\/span><\/p>\n","image":false,"embedded_video":"","video_duration":"","show_fb_comments":true,"credit_media":""},"tile":{"top_caption":"\u05d1","main_caption":"The Immanent Other","main_caption_size":"1","sub_caption":"12.
