Indeed, isn\u2019t feeling truly validated the greatest happiness? But, can we find a place to be validated? To have our internal, essential conflict held?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The psalmist suggests that we should be <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">temimei derech<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, blameless, wholehearted. But while \u201cperfection\u201d might imply stillness, peace and quiet, we are also to be involved in purposeful movement! How can we combine these opposites? By holding on to God\u2019s Torah.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ben Yehoyada (Yosef Hayim of Bagdad, 1835-1909) notes the difference between \u201c<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ovrei drachim<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d (those who pass-by along the way) and \u201c<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">holchei drachim<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d (those who walk on the roads). He point to the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>gemara<\/em> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in Tractate Brachot (3:a), where Rabbi Yosei shared that once he was \u201cwalking along the road\u201d when he entered a ruin\u2026 why the lengthy \u201cwalking along the road\u201d and not the direct \u2018once I entered a ruin\u2019, wonders the Ben Yehoyada, and answers: There are people who think that their journey\u2019s goal is arrival. The road and whatever happens along the way for them is a distraction from the \u201creal thing\u201d. Then, there are others who know the road to be part of the journey\u2019s goal. During each and every step, God is already with them. Likewise, for Rabbi Yosei, walking is the goal, not the ruin, which in turn changes how he approaches his following encounter with Elijah.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Psalmist reminds us that we are, if you will, a journeying nation; that we need to be peaceful while in motion, creating a \u201cflow\u201d in God\u2019s Torah.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","image":false,"embedded_video":"","video_duration":"","show_fb_comments":true,"credit_media":""},"tile":{"top_caption":"\u05d0","main_caption":"A Journeying Nation","main_caption_size":"1","sub_caption":"1.
