  1. Eight? Really? \u201c<\/em>Torah\u201d in this psalm is the central figure, and it has eight synonyms: \u201cYour word… Your law… Your instruction\u2026 Your testimony.. Your rules\u2026 Your commandments\u2026 Your utterances\u2026 Your laws\u2026\u201d This octuplet joins the eight-fold structure of the verses (eight verses to each letter of the alphabet). Eight is <\/span>the<\/em> <\/span>number in this psalm.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. In love<\/em>. There\u2019s a lot of emotion in this psalm. The passionate connection to Torah is joyful devotion. For example, \u201cO how I love Your teaching! It is my study all day long\u201d (verse 97). Or: \u201cHow pleasing is Your word to my palate, sweeter than honey\u201d (103).<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. In hatred<\/em>. As powerful the love for Torah, that\u2019s how powerful the hatred for lying: \u201cI hate and abhor falsehood; I love Your teaching\u201d (163).<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. In pain<\/em>. There is also a lot of suffering: \u201cMy eyes shed streams of water because men do not obey Your teaching\u201d (136), and even rage \u201cI am consumed with rage over my foes\u2019 neglect of Your words\u201d (139).<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Great wellbeing (shalom rav)<\/em>. The psalm includes quite a bit about evildoers and threats. But there is total certainty that \u201cThose who love Your teaching enjoy wellbeing; they encounter no adversity\u201d (165).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":86314,"id":86314,"title":"Points
