Just who is the \u201cus\u201d in the second verse: \u201cfor great is His steadfast love toward us\u201d? Over all humanity, or (just) over Israel? If it\u2019s Israel (as most commentators believe), while the address is to all the nations (verse 1), is that meant to be ironic? Or a message to Israel? Or an expression of the idea that God\u2019s greatness in the world is expressed in divine favor for Israel?
