When the surrounding nations look to their gods they craft idols that they can pray too. They can look at trees (Ashaira), the sun (Ra), and fire (Molech) to name a few.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But the revolutionary message of the Israelites is that God has no image. God is everyone and everything.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The simple reading of verses 5-7 is that the people fashion gods of gold and silver (verse 4) and yet these idols have eyes but cannot see, ears but cannot hear etc. This brings to mind the famous Midrash of young Abram who smashes the idols of his father. When his father returns and confronts Abram, Abram points the finger at one of the idols. His incredulous father scoffs- how could an idol that is made of stone destroy other idols?! The obvious lesson Abram is trying to teach his father is if this idol has arms but cannot use them, then how can you worship it?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Back to our chapter, the secondary layer of verses 5-7 does not describe the immobile idols, but the pagans themselves. These idol worshipers have ears but cannot hear the truth of God, they have eyes but cannot see the true God, etc. The author wants us to see that it is not just the idols that are stone, but the people that worship them as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","image":{"ID":89208,"id":89208,"title":"ps115-hear no
