It declares God\u2019s goodness and urges all of creation to worship.<\/p>\n<p><em>Chapter Summary:<\/em><br \/>\nThe singer beseeches God to relieve the Jewish people of their troubles, act mercifully towards them, and bless them. He also ridicules idolaters who seek to undermine Israel&#8217;s faith in the Lord.<\/p>\n<p>This psalm consists of eighteen verses. Several clauses, such as \u201cezram umaginam Hu\u201d&#8211; \u201cHe is their help and their shield\u201d, serve as a refrain, perhaps indicating that these verses were originally intended to be recited responsively.<\/p>\n<p><em>Shimush Tehillim&#8211;When to Say:<\/em><br \/>\nTo refute idolatry&#8211;Verses 4-8 state: \u201cTheir idols are silver and gold, products of human hands They have a mouth but cannot speak, they have eyes but cannot see. They have ears but cannot hear, they have a nose, but cannot smell. Their hands cannot feel their feet cannot walk, they cannot speak with their throat. Like them shall be their makers&#8211;all who put their trust in them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Talmud on Tehillim:<\/em><br \/>\nVerse 1: \u201cNot for our sake, Adonoy, not for our sake.\u201d<br \/>\nThe Talmud, Pesachim 117a, informs us that Hallel was historically recited on many occasions, most notably by Moses and the Israelites upon successfully crossing the Red Sea.
