And often what it takes to spur me into action is a word of support from someone outside of my own head \u2013 a family member, a colleague, a boss.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sforno tells us that Psalm 111 is essentially a sermon instructing us to learn Torah. Our inspiration for learning Torah comes, according to this psalm, from acknowledging the wonders of God\u2019s creation and connecting to the world both through creation itself and also from our community (\u201cwith the council of the upright and the congregation\u201d (1).\u00a0 We are reminded in verse 2 of the accessibility of God\u2019s works, just as Moses, in his last living day reminded us of the accessibility of Torah itself (Deuteronomy 30). Appreciating the wonders of God is not an end in itself, it\u2019s a means to gain inspiration to study Torah and fulfill God\u2019s commandments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rabbi Shimshon Raphael Hirsch understands accessibility, as mentioned in verse 2, to derive from the fact that God has endowed every aspect of creation with everything it needs to succeed. The blessings we say every day as a matter of course should remind us of this God-given capacity. \u201cWho sanctifies us with His commandments and commands us to\u2026.\u201d tells us first that we have been given the power to act as agents of God and then what we should do with that power.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The psalmist has broken the instruction down textually for us through a clever alphabetical arrangement. It inherently includes the most vital component of teaching. God has given us a huge and critical task in the world along with all the tools we need to succeed and God\u2019s own vote of confidence.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If we can keep that forefront in our minds, our job feels doable and there\u2019s no reason to procrastinate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","image":{"ID":88855,"id":88855,"title":"ps111-cat lion
