  1. The circle of curses<\/em>. The enemy of the psalmist loves to curse (verse 17). And the psalmist, too, answers him in the same coin – of a bitter curse (verses 9-15). That is unless you interpret like Malbim who writes that those curses are simply the psalmist quoting his enemies.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. One\u2019s family is oneself<\/em>. That\u2019s why harming a man\u2019s children and spouse are tantamount to harming him.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Clothes make the man<\/em>. Therefore the psalmist wants to emphasize just how much the curse is embedded in the behavior of his enemy \u201cMay he be clothed in a curse like a garment…Let it be like the cloak he wraps around him, like the belt he always wears\u201d (18-19). And when he wants their disgrace to overwhelm them, he writes: \u201cMy accusers shall be clothed in shame, wrapped in their disgrace as in a robe\u201d (29).<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. A curse not written in the Torah<\/em>. This isn\u2019t the first time in the book of Psalms that curses on one\u2019s enemies are heard (see for instance, Pss. 35, 58, 69), but none have been so concentrated or intense. There are some pretty hard curses in the Torah, which are addressed to the sinful people as a warning (see Deut. 28, and\u00a0 LEv. 26). Personal imprecations can be found in Jeremiah, which are actually similar to the ones in the psalm (Jer. 1:21-23; 18:19-23; and 20:4-6).<\/span><\/li>\n
  5.
