This psalm starts with detailed praise for God. He is exalted above the sky and the heavens! He promised his people the lands of Canaan! All those who cry out to him are answered! But then it takes a very harsh sharp turn at the very end. “But You have rejected us, O God; God, You do not march with our armies.”(verse 12).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When reading this psalm, one has to do a double take when reading this verse. Did we not just spend the previous eleven verses praising God? Clearly this psalm was written by King David after defeat in battle. There is no begging for forgiveness or a wailing against the triumph of evil over good that we have seen in previous chapters. Gearing up for a second round, King David changes his pure praise of God into something more akin to a guilt trip.\u00a0 God you are so high and mighty and you promised us all of these conquests, yet it seems as if You cannot deliver for us!\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This chutzpah, for lack of a better word, if only available to someone who is so close to God as King David.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
