There are three distinct messages in the opening of the psalm (verses 1-5). \u201cHallelujah. Praise the LORD for He is good; His steadfast love is eternal.\u201d As well as, \u201cHappy are those who act justly.\u201d And finally, a request, for the salvation of the individual, along with the redemption of the people: \u201cBe mindful of me, O LORD, when You favor Your people; take note of me when You deliver them.\u201d And all these are integrally connected to the overall message of the psalm.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Riddle me this<\/em>. The psalm is full of hints and allusions to the stories from the Torah. You\u2019re invited to begin a textual journey. Here are a few signposts:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The rescue at the Sea (verses 9-11) you can find in Ex. 14, and in Ex. 15 &#8211; the song sung in celebration.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The \u201ccraving in the wilderness\u201d (verses 14-15) is based on the story of Kibrot Ha-ta\u2019avah (\u201cthe graves of craves\u201d) from Numbers 11.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The full story of the rebellion of Dathan and Abiram (verses 16-19) can be found in Numbers 16, as part of the story of Korach and his clan.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sin of the Golden Calf (verses 20-23) is from Ex. 32, or Deut. 9.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The \u201crejection of the desirable land\u201d (verses 24-27) is told at length in the story of the spies, Num. 13-14, or Deut. 1.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sin of Baal Peor and the role of Phinehas in stopping the plague (verse 28-31) is told in Num. 25, and the story of the waters of Meribah (32-33) in Num. 20.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check them out!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3. <em>The other side of the coin<\/em>. Read yesterday\u2019s psalm, 105, again. Note how they present essentially the same historical events, but from entirely different vantage points, and each one draws its own historical lessons.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4. <em>As seen from over there<\/em>. From verse 47, which states: \u201cDeliver us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the nations\u201d we can assume that the psalm was written in exile. How does this affect the look back at the history of the people, and the relevant lessons and conclusions?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5. <em>Finished &#8211; but not complete.<\/em> The fourth of the five books of Psalms ends on a festive note: \u201cBlessed is the LORD, God of Israel, From eternity to eternity. Let all the people say, \u201cAmen.\u201d Hallelujah.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","image":{"ID":86314,"id":86314,"title":"Points to
