Psalm 106:<\/p>\n

Author:<\/em>
\nUnknown; perhaps King David–the second king of Israel and father of the Davidic royal and messianic dynasty. David composed over seventy of the 150 psalms of Sefer Tehillim.<\/p>\n

When and Why:<\/em>
\nDavid might have written this psalm with regards to the bringing up of the Ark from the house of Oved to the City of David in Jerusalem.<\/p>\n

Genre:<\/em>
\nPsalm of Wisdom–This psalm contains teachings and wise advice and is meant to instruct people on how to live a Godly life.<\/p>\n

Chapter Summary:<\/em>
\nThe singer continues to depict the many beneficent acts performed by God for Israel. He warns the Jewish people not to be ungrateful as their forefathers, and reminds them that God\u2019s abundant kindness is nevertheless unconditional.<\/p>\n

This psalm consists of forty-eight verses, subdivided into three parts.
\nIn verses 1-5, the psalmist praises God for His lovingkindness extended to those who maintain justice. He adds a supplication to be privileged to witness Israel\u2019s salvation.
\nIn verses 6-46, he engages in a lengthy confession on behalf of God\u2019s people. He introduces his words by stating that the people of Israel and their fathers have sinned. He then lists many of the sins committed by the generations that left Egypt and wandered in the wilderness, as well as sins committed by subsequent generations in Israel.
\nIn verses 47 and 48, he concludes with a prayer for deliverance, and offers a blessing to God corresponding to the words of praise with which he opened the psalm.<\/p>\n

Shimush Tehillim–When to Say:<\/em>
\nFor a fever (some recite this in the 3rd hour of the day)–Verse 44 states: \u201cAnd He regarded their affliction, when He heard their cry.<\/p>\n

Foreign Worship:<\/em>
\nBa\u2019al Pe\u2019or–a pagan deity of either agriculture or fertility, in which its followers engaged in acts of promiscuity and immorality. It was perhaps limited in its following to the area of Pe\u2019or, perhaps more widespread. Some identity Ba\u2019al Pe\u2019or with Chemosh , referred to elsewhere as the god of Moab.
\n\u05e9\u05d3\u05d9\u05dd–Sheidim–demons worshipped by idolators.
\n\u05ea\u05d1\u05e0\u05d9\u05ea \u05e9\u05d5\u05e8–Tavnit Shor–literally meaning a \u201cform of an ox\u201d, a reference to the golden calf worshipped by the Israelites following the revelation at Sinai.<\/p>\n

Talmud on Tehillim:<\/em>
\nVerse 30: \u201cAnd Pinchos stood up and wrought judgement.\u201d
\nThe Talmud, Berachot 6b and 26b, deduced that the word \u201cvay\u2019fallel\u201d (\u201che intervened\u201d), can also be understood as \u201che prayed\u201d, and that Pinchas thus stood when he prayed. The title \u201cAmidah\u201d (Silent Meditation), the central, private prayer of each of the daily services, literally means \u201cstanding\u201d, as one stands during its recitation. The Amidah is also referred to as Shemoneh Esrei; literally meaning \u201ceighteen\u201d, the weekday Amidah originally containing eighteen blessings.<\/p>\n
