Abraham:<\/span>
\nI strive for You
\nAs if You were a mountain.
\nEach morning I wake at dawn
\nTo climb up the paths of my mind,
\nGroping, grasping
\nCrags on the steep slopes
\nTo pull myself up, trying to mount higher.
\nBrushing aside bushes and thorns,
\nMaking sure my feet do not slip,
\nI strain to reach the peak
\nWhere I may stand
\nAnd see the whole landscape spread out in front of me,
\nBathed
\nIn the whiteness of Your shadow.
\nFor on the mountain of the Lord there is vision.<\/p>\n

Isaac:
\n<\/span>I strive for You<\/em>
\nAs if You were a field.
\nEach afternoon at dusk
\nI go out to the meadows
\nAnd listen to the grass murmur Your praise.
\nI bend over, trying to hear
\nEach blade recite a prayer
\nIn a language it alone invented,
\nTo hear their thousands of voices
\nChant thousands of psalms barely audible,
\nBarely perceptible.
\nIn the field of my heart, bared before You as plain as a meadow,
\nI hear the echoes of Your name
\nRepeated in choruses, in infinite tones and variations.
\nFor in the field of the Lord there is music.<\/em><\/p>\n

Jacob:
\n<\/strong><\/span>I strive for You <\/strong>
\nAs if You were a house.
\n<\/strong>In the darkness of the night, and in its quiet,
\n<\/strong>I enter the chambers of my soul
\n<\/strong>Looking for a passageway to Your throne-room.
\n<\/strong>But each corridor brings me to another array of hallways
\n<\/strong>In which I wander amidst shadows.
\n<\/strong>And though I see nothing in the blackness, and hear nothing in the silence,
\n<\/strong>I feel Your Presence hovering just beyond me,
\n<\/strong>Almost tactile.
\n<\/strong>In my hands I hold a thousand keys
\n<\/strong>That unlock a thousand doors;
\n<\/strong>If only I could find the one right key that unlocks the one right door
\n<\/strong>Opening the innermost chamber where Your fingers touch.
\n<\/strong>For in the house of the Lord there is contact.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Each morning at dawn<\/p>\n

Each afternoon at dusk<\/em><\/p>\n

Each night I pray:<\/strong><\/p>\n

When will I see<\/p>\n

Hear<\/em><\/p>\n

Feel<\/strong><\/p>\n

Your Presence again<\/p>\n

As You whisper<\/em><\/p>\n

And gently stroke me,<\/strong><\/p>\n

Revealing the word,<\/p>\n

Uttering the word,<\/em><\/p>\n

Sensing the word,<\/strong><\/p>\n

Enabling me to comprehend<\/p>\n

Understand<\/em><\/p>\n

Know<\/strong><\/p>\n

I have served You<\/p>\n

In justice<\/em><\/p>\n

In truth<\/strong><\/p>\n

In compassion.<\/p>\n

If only I could share <\/em><\/p>\n

With others<\/strong><\/p>\n

The vision<\/p>\n

The music<\/em><\/p>\n

The touch<\/strong><\/p>\n

You<\/p>\n

bestow<\/em><\/p>\n

Upon me.<\/strong><\/p>\n
