  1. Mind-body<\/em>. The body and the mind are completely connected in this psalm. Both in the experience of the \u201cblesser\u201d: \u201cBless the LORD, O my soul, all my being, His holy name\u201d (verse 1); and in connection to forgiveness and health, which is basically the connection between sin and disease (verse 3).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Echoes of the 13 attributes<\/em>. 586 chapters ago in Exodus 34 )verses 5-9), God made known to Moses \u201chis ways\u201d and his attributes. Here, in verses 8-10, you can find quotes (especially about mercy), and also some responses (mainly to justice).<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Cartographic metaphors.<\/em> In order to explain the proportions and the relationship between God and His people, the psalmist deploys vast geographic distances. The highest up is the most <\/span>chesed<\/span><\/em>,<\/em> steadfast love: \u201cFor as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His steadfast love toward those who fear Him.\u201d That love expresses itself in getting rid of evil, and sin: \u201cAs east is far from west, so far has He removed our sins from us\u201d (verses 11-12).<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Bless, O my soul<\/em>. This phrase appears 5 times in Psalms. Three of them here in Psalm 103, and another two in the next chapter, 104. It is 104, better known because of its place in the liturgy, that has become known as Barchi Nafshi<\/em>, \u201cBless, O my soul.\u201d But whoever has read today\u2019s psalm, 103, understands that that title belongs to it no less, and maybe more.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":86314,"id":86314,"title":"Points to
