Psalm 101:<\/p>\n

Author:<\/em>
\nKing David–the second king of Israel and father of the Davidic royal and messianic dynasty. David composed over seventy of the 150 psalms of Sefer Tehillim.<\/p>\n

When and Why:<\/em>
\nDavid wrote this psalm to explain how he ruled his kingdom and led the people of Israel.<\/p>\n

Genre:<\/em>
\nPsalm of Royalty–This psalm describes how God reigns supreme. It focuses on the human king of Israel, or upon God as King of Israel.<\/p>\n

Chapter Summary:<\/em>
\nThis psalm depicts David\u2019s conduct both in his home and in ruling his kingdom. It emphasized the kindness and just judgement which he practiced towards Israel. Some suggest that David composed this psalm when he beseeched God to allow him to build the Beit HaMikdash (Temple).<\/p>\n

This psalm consists of eight verses, subdivided into two parts.
\nThe first verse serves as an introduction, in which King David proclaims that he will sing of lovingkindness and justice.
\nIn verses 2-4, the Psalmist contemplates how he conducts himself with integrity and distances himself from evil deeds.
\nIn verses 5-8, he speaks of the members of his household, asserting that he makes sure that they too walk with integrity. He declares that he sends away the wicked and draws the righteous near to him.<\/p>\n

Shimush Tehillim–When to Say:<\/em>
\nTo ward off an evil spirit–Verse 3 states: \u201cI will not set before my eyes works of wickedness the doing of crooked things I hate; [thus] it will not cleave to me.\u201d<\/p>\n
