You\u2019re right–I should stop thinking
\nBecause when I think
\nI can\u2019t understand<\/p>\n

What we’re doing together,
\nYou with your blameless beauty
\nThickening in my window<\/p>\n

Terrible as an army
\nCalled in to guard
\nOr pacify<\/p>\n

A restive population–me–
\nDying of–well, it\u2019s hard to say,
\nBut certainly dying<\/p>\n

Because that\u2019s the way you made me,
\nBuilt-in obsolescence
\nThat can\u2019t stop complaining<\/p>\n

Even when you are slipping
\nThrough my window
\nIn search of peace and quiet<\/p>\n

And a warm, imperfect body
\nTo ease the burden of the beauty
\nOf things that never die<\/p>\n

Because that\u2019s the way you made me
\nBut you didn\u2019t make me
\nNot to think, and I can\u2019t think<\/p>\n

Without thinking
\nAbout what we\u2019re doing together,
\nYou with your undying beauty
\nAnd me with the ugliness
\nOf thoughts you think I shouldn\u2019t
\nBecause then it will never make sense,<\/p>\n

You being here, flooding my ugliness
\nWith your beauty
\nAs though beauty were some kind of justification<\/p>\n

For the death
\nThat if only I would stop thinking
\nWould start to make sense<\/p>\n

\nThere is a parallel idea between this psalm and Psalm 100, which is that we were created a certain way and that is the way we are. The line in this psalm reads: \u201cBecause that\u2019s the way you made me,\u201d and in Psalm 100 the line reads: \u201cHe made us and we are His.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
