Psalm 100:<\/p>\n

Author:<\/em>
\nMoses–the leader of the Israelites and receiver of the Torah at Sinai, a shepherd chosen by God for his humility and loyalty to his sheep. The penultimate verse of the Torah describes him as the greatest prophet of all time.<\/p>\n

When and Why:<\/em>
\nThis psalm was written to be said by someone who brings a thanksgiving offering in the Temple.<\/p>\n

Genre:<\/em>
\nPsalm of Thanksgiving–This psalm emphasizes gratitude for what God has done.
\nPsalm of Communal Thanksgiving–This psalm emphasizes gratitude for what God has done for the community.<\/p>\n

Chapter Summary:<\/em>
\nThis psalm was chanted in conjunction with the Korban Todah<\/em> (Thanksgiving offering) in the Beit HaMikdash (Temple). It also serves as a general call to all Israel to offer thanks to God for all the good He has bestowed upon His people.<\/p>\n

This psalm consists of five verses, subdivided into three parts. The first half of verse 1 serves as a heading.
\nIn verses 1 and 2, the psalmist bids \u201cthe land\u201d to shout out to God and serve Him with joy.
\nIn verse 3, he admonishes us to know that God is the Lord and that we are His nation.
\nIn verses 4 and 5, he further encourages us to thank God, praise Him, and bless His name.<\/p>\n

\nRecited as part of Pesukei Dezimra (Verses of Praise introducing the Shacharit morning service) of weekdays. It is omitted on Erev (the eve of) Yom Kippur, Erev Pesach (Passover), and Chol Hamo\u2019eid (Intermediate Days of) Pesach, as the Korban Todah (Thanksgiving offering) was not offered in the Beit HaMikdash (Temple) on those days.<\/p>\n
