Psalm 99:<\/p>\n

Author:<\/em>
\nMoses–the leader of the Israelites and receiver of the Torah at Sinai, a shepherd chosen by God for his humility and loyalty to his sheep. The penultimate verse of the Torah describes him as the greatest prophet of all time.<\/p>\n

When and Why:<\/em>
\nMoses wrote this psalm prophetically about the war between Gog and Magog in the end of days. This war will be fought by these two world super powers in Jerusalem. Then God\u2019s kingship will be fully manifest at this time.<\/p>\n

Genre:<\/em>
\nPsalm of Enthronement–This psalm extols God\u2019s royal role in the universe.
\nPsalm of Praise–This is a psalm of celebration, often the result of a victory. It declares God\u2019s goodness and urges all of creation to worship.<\/p>\n

Chapter Summary:<\/em>
\nAs in the previous two psalms, here too Moses speaks of the future revelation of God\u2019s kingship, as well as His returning to Zion. When that time arrives, asserts the psalmist, the nations will be seized with fear.<\/p>\n

This psalm consists of nine verses, subdivided into three parts, each of which ends with the refrain \u201cKadosh\u201d — \u201c[God is] holy\u201d.
\nIn verses 1-3, the psalmist depicts God as ruling from Zion over all peoples of the earth, and how the earth itself trembles in fear of Him.
\nIn verses 4 and 5, he describes the holiness of God as manifesting itself in His sovereignty over Israel. He further reminds the reader that God dealt in a just and righteous manner with Jacob.
\nIn verses 6-9, he again describes the holiness of God, this time as manifesting itself through His nearness to His chosen who in turn fear Him.<\/p>\n

Shimush Tehillim–When to Say:<\/em>
\nFor assistance in becoming pious–Verse 6 states: \u201cMoses and Aaron among His priests, and Samuel among those who invoke His name, called to Adonoy, and He answered them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Where in the Siddur:<\/em>
\nRecited as one of the paragraphs of Kabbalat Shabbat (Friday night service).
\nVerse 5 is one of the verses recited following the removal of the Torah from the Aron Kodesh (Holy Ark).
\nVerse 5 also comprises one of the verses of Hodu–a central prayer of Pesukei DeZimra (Verses of Praise introducing the Shacharit morning service).<\/p>\n

Biblical Creatures:<\/em>
\n\u05db\u05e8\u05d5\u05d1\u05d9\u05dd–Cherubim–were golden angelic winged infants positioned upon the Ark of the Covenant, which contained the two Tablets with the Ten Commandments on them.<\/p>\n
