Psalm 96:<\/p>\n

Author:<\/em>
\nMoses–the leader of the Israelites and receiver of the Torah at Sinai, a shepherd chosen by God for his humility and loyalty to his sheep. The penultimate verse of the Torah describes him as the greatest prophet of all time.<\/p>\n

When and Why:<\/em>
\nMoses wrote this psalm about how the people of Israel will sing in joy when they are redeemed from exile.<\/p>\n

Genre:<\/em>
\nPsalm of Enthronement–This psalm extols God\u2019s royal role in the universe.
\nPsalm of Praise–This is a psalm of celebration, often the result of a victory. It declares God\u2019s goodness and urges all of creation to worship.<\/p>\n

Chapter Summary:<\/em>
\nThis psalmist sings a song for the future, when God will deliver Israel from evil persecutors. In this and the following psalm, the singer further declares that the Lord will perform miracles transcending nature in order to conform to the deliverance of His servants.<\/p>\n

This psalm consists of thirteen verses, subdivided into four parts.
\nIn verses 1-3, Moses calls out to all to sing to God.
\nIn verses 4-6, he asserts that God is great and should be feared.
\nIn verses 7-10, he further calls upon all the nations of the world to fear God.
\nIn verses 11-13, he assures the reader that even the mighty forces of creation will rejoice and raise their voices in song in God\u2019s honor on the day that He judges all people of the earth.<\/p>\n

Where in the Siddur:<\/em>
\nRecited as the second paragraph of Kabbalat Shabbat (Friday night service).
\nRecited on the first day of Sukkot in some congregations.
\nVerse 4 is found in Selichot (Penitential Service) of Ma\u2019ariv (evening service) of Yom Kippur.<\/p>\n
