Everyone should get their just deserts\r\n\r\n","content":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When Abraham is told that the cities of Sodom and Gemorrah are going to be destroyed, he engages in a debate with God in an attempt to save the city.\u00a0 Abraham ends the conversation with a shocking rebuke of God: &#8220;It would be sacrilege [to attribute] to You such an act, to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. It would be sacrilege to attribute this to You: Shall the Judge of all the earth not do justice?&#8221; (Genesis 18:25).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abraham&#8217;s call for justice is one of mercy. As evil as the people of Sodom and Gomorrah are, Abraham tries to find a way to save them. The author of Psalm 94 has a different approach. Verse 9-10: &#8220;Shall He who implants the ear not hear, He who forms the eye not see? Shall He who disciplines nations not punish, He who instructs men in knowledge?&#8221;\u00a0 The author of this Psalm wants God to act. As the creator and judge of the world God must judge and punish the wicked. This is not the call for merciful justice as Abraham wants. This is a call for justice for the orphans and widows. A call for justice for those who are oppressed by the wicked.
