Psalm 94:<\/p>\n

Author:<\/em>
\nMoses–the leader of the Israelites and receiver of the Torah at Sinai, a shepherd chosen by God for his humility and loyalty to his sheep. The penultimate verse of the Torah describes him as the greatest prophet of all time.<\/p>\n

When and Why:<\/em>
\nMoses wrote this psalm as a prayer for the coming of Messiah and the ultimate redemption.<\/p>\n

Genre:<\/em>
\nPsalm of Communal Lament–This psalm contains teaching and wise advice and is meant to instruct people on how to live a Godly life.<\/p>\n

Chapter Summary:<\/em>
\nMoses appeals to God to obliterate the wicked who rise up against Israel. He further requests that His nation be fortified while in exile. God, the author assures the reader, will not abandon His people.<\/p>\n

This psalm consists of twenty-three verses, subdivided into three parts.
\nIn verses 1-7, the psalmist laments the deeds of the wicked, and calls upon God to take vengeance upon them. He describes how they arrogantly boast of their success and speaks out against God. He further bemoans their oppression and affliction of Israel.
\nIn verse 8-15, Moses reminds the reader that God observes our actions and judges us accordingly.
\nIn verses 16-23, the psalmist describes how God helps those who trust in Him.<\/p>\n

Shimush Tehillim–When to Say:<\/em>
\nTo rise to greatness (see Chapter 92)
\nTo ward off and defeat an enemy–Verse 16 states: \u201cWho will rise up for me against the wicked, who will stand up for me against the evildoers?\u201d<\/p>\n

Biblical Personalities:<\/em>
\nJacob–also called Israel, the third patriarch, considered the father of the twelve tribes of Israel. He was the brother of Esav, and was married to Leah and Rachel.<\/p>\n

Talmud on Tehillim:<\/em>
\nVerse 12: \u201cFortunate is the man whom You chastise, God, and whom You instruct from Your Torah.\u201d The Talmud, Berachot 5a, deduces that if one is afflicted with suffering, he should turn to the study of Torah.<\/p>\n
