Psalm 91 refers to two types of maladies- “<\/span>dever<\/span><\/em>” the plague that is well known as the fifth plague in Egypt- the pestilence, and “<\/span>nega’<\/span><\/em>,” in verse 10. This word actually appears multiple times in the bible with different connotations. The basic translation is “to touch.” It is the punishment that God inflicts on the Pharaoh that takes Sarah into captivity in Genesis 12.\u00a0 It is also used to mean molest or harm; as Abimelech warns against his household harming Isaac in Genesis 26, or the injury that angel gives Jacob when they wrestle in Genesis 32. It’s the word God uses to introduce the plague of the death of the firstborn in Exodus 11. Throughout Leviticus chapter 11, the word is used as a warning against ‘touching” any holy object when impure, or any impure object when holy. In Leviticus 13 and 14 it shifts again and is used to describe the leprosy that can inflict humans and buildings.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So what does verse 10 mean; \u201cNo evil shall befall you, and no <\/span>nega’<\/span><\/em> shall come near your tent”?\u00a0 Perhaps the use of the word tent here points to the <\/span>nega’ <\/span><\/em>being used in reference to the leprosy in Leviticus that can appear on the walls of a dwelling. Following God and walking in His ways will protect the inhabitants from maladies that infect the walls of their house.<\/span><\/p>\n","image":{"ID":63538,"id":63538,"title":"2kings7-Jerusalem
