  1. Made in the shade<\/em>. One who trusts in God feels as though they \u201cdwell in the shelter of the Most High\u201d and \u201cabide in the protection of Shaddai,\u201d and that\u2019s the best place in the world (verse 1).<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Worth a thousand words<\/em>. Try reading the psalm as a picture. To imagine the flying arrows, those who fall all around, and the \u201ccubs and vipers\u2026 lions and asps.\u201d And there amongst them all, well-guarded, is the believer.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. 2 speakers.<\/em> In the opening to the psalm, verses 1-2 and also verse 9, the believer is heard: \u201cI say of the LORD, my refuge and stronghold.\u201d In the closing verses (14-16), God speaks directly to him. The rest of the psalm speaks to the believer in a direct address (\u201cno harm will befall you, no disease touch your tent\u201d).<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. \u00a0\u201cI will be with him in distress\u201d<\/em> (verse 15). During the long years of national suffering in exile, these words took on a new theological meaning. In contrast to the idea of a miraculous salvation from distress, these words express closeness and partnership. God is with those who trust in Him in the most difficult periods.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. A psalm for the road<\/em>. The psalm has become part of different prayers – on Shabbat and holidays, at the end of Shabbat, in the nightly prayer said upon going to sleep, and there are those who add to the traveler\u2019s prayer, the verse \u201cFor He will order His angels to guard you wherever you go\u201d (11).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":86314,"id":86314,"title":"Points to
