I couldn’t find a key, so I remained
\nOutdoors all night and had to hide behind
\nThe house my father built; I couldn’t find
\nIts awning, so I shivered as it rained.
\nI couldn’t find a chair, for I disdained
\nThe furniture my father had designed;
\nI couldn’t find a lamp, for I was blind
\nTo all the light my father’s house contained.<\/p>\n

But worst of all, I couldn’t find a path
\nTo You, my God, I couldn’t find the map
\nMy father used, which pointed out a way
\nFor men like me to overcome Your wrath,
\nO Lord \u2014 a way across the angry gap
\nThat separates my night from lucid
