This verse is chanted during the Rosh Hashanah service before the shofar is blown. There are multiple reasons why the shofar is blown. The shofar is like the trumpet blast welcoming the king, the shofar is a cry for battle, the shofar is a wake up call that it&#8217;s time for repentance, the shofar mimics the warning sounds of the prophets, the shofar is a crying individual, the shofar reminds us of the binding of Isaac, the shofar is an instrument playing along during a happy time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are just a small selection of the many reasons we blow the shofar. In the ancient world the sound of a horn blast most often accompanied a battle. But for the Jewish people, the shofar means so much more. The psalmist picks up on this. The Jewish people understand that there can be multiple reasons and multiple emotions- sometimes even competing emotions and reasons, all wrapped up in one. This is what makes the people &#8220;fortunate&#8230; that understand the call of teruah.&#8221; The Jewish people see the world from different angles and different perspectives. This allows the Jewish people to fully walk in the presence of
