Since this psalmist was from the family of Korach that sang and played in the Temple, we know how powerful their emotions were when they performed, for otherwise they would not have been able to play and to sing \u2013 as is the case with every outstanding musician. For this reason, when he first begins his survey of the amazing features of the holy city which was granted ten times the wisdom of every other city, he became so emotional that he was unable to express himself in a clear and thought-out manner. He simply poured out his ideas and emotions in a short, succinct manner saying: This cannot be explained by nature, rather it is the essence of the city that is situated under the watchful eyes of God, Who keeps it above all others!<\/span><\/p>\n

He says: 2) <\/span>The LORD loves the gates of Zion, etc.<\/span><\/i> When speaking of wisdom and intelligence, all of them can be found in the city of God. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>3) He does not have the strength to go into detail regarding all of the great virtues found in Zion \u2013 those that brought him to this emotional state \u2013 yet then he begins to explain himself in detail: 4) When I sit in a gathering and mention Rahav \u2013 that is Egypt \u2013 or Babylon to people who are knowledgeable about the qualities of those cities, I am told that a person who is expert in a certain area of knowledge, for example, astrology, was born in Egypt, while the outstanding builder was born in Tyre. This is because the nature of those cities tend toward those areas of knowledge. No one would suggest, however, that the builder was born in Egypt or the astrologer in Tyre, for those areas of wisdom are unknown in those places.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Still, however 5) regarding Zion, it can be said that every man who was outstanding in one area of knowledge or another could have been born there, for it is the epicenter of all areas of knowledge. This is because God, Who was mentioned in the previous verse, prepared it to be greater than all the nations of the world. For 6) when God inscribed the names of the nations to divide among them the various abilities and qualities, so that a man born here who have this knowledge and someone born there would have that, He made sure to write the city of Zion next to each and every quality and wisdom. The proof to this is 7) musicians and singers and every other quality that can be imagined is found there.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And if it is not based on God\u2019s own plan, who did all this? The reason that music and dancing are mentioned specifically is because the psalmist was particularly attuned to the wisdom expressed by those activities.<\/span><\/p>\n
