It seems as if the chapter is inverted. In the first four verses, the sons of Korach discuss how God has returned the captivity of Jacob, forgiven their sins, and withdrawn his wrath. In the next four they ask God to cease his anger, not be angry through the generations, and revive the people. This seems backward: if everyone is saved and God is no longer angry, why would they then need to ask him to reverse his anger?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps the sons of Korach are focusing on two levels. The first, immediate level, is the initial return. The &#8220;in the moment&#8221; saving of the people. The second part is more of a generational pain. The continuous cycle of punishment may have spells of deliverance, but ultimately it always returns to this low point.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As generational descendants of one of the villains of the Bible the sons of Korach are uniquely placed to talk about generational punishment. While they themselves were saved from the punishment of their forefather, perhaps they still were victims of scorn. In this prayer they look beyond their initial freedom to the larger picture. Almost as if to say to God:\u00a0 \u201cWe deserve more than just individual salvation. We deserve a full generational salvation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","image":{"ID":86369,"id":86369,"title":"ps85-punishment
