As an immigrant to Israel, one thing I always love seeing is how ancient Biblical verses guide and inspire our everyday life. This is especially evident in the architecture of Israel\u2019s Supreme Court.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There is a beautiful arched courtyard, flanked by the Justices\u2019 chambers, and open to the Jerusalem sky. The courtyard is constructed from hewn stone with a symbolic water channel flowing through its center.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Two passages from the Bible inspired its design. The first one is from Psalms (85:12).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTruth springs up from the earth and justice looks down from heaven.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As seen in the picture, the water springs from the earth and reflects the sky above.<\/span><\/p>\n

The second passage comes from the book of Amos (5:24).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLet justice well up like water and righteousness like an unfailing stream.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

This passage also influenced the design of the courtyard. The water emerges from a circular depression in the stone, reminiscent of a well, and flows into a straight channel, representing the straight and true path of justice.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, in Judaism, water also symbolizes life, purity, wisdom, and righteousness; all of which are fitting aspirations for the highest court in the land.<\/span><\/p>\n
