Psalm 83:<\/p>\n

Author:<\/em>
\nAsaf–a composer of several psalms and a patriarch of a family of singers in the Beit HaMikdash (Temple).<\/span><\/p>\n

When and Why:<\/em>
\nAsaf wrote this psalm about the massive war that was waged by Jehoshaphat against the armies of Ammon, Moab, and many other nations.<\/p>\n

Genre:<\/em>
\nPsalm of Communal Lament–This psalm contains teaching and wise advice and is meant to instruct people on how to live a Godly life.<\/p>\n

Chapter Summary:<\/em>
\nIn this psalm, Asaf addresses all of the locations of the future exiles of the Jewish people. He asserts that the hatred of the nations for Israel is rooted in their hatred of God himself.<\/p>\n

This psalm consists of nineteen verses, subdivided into four parts. The first verse serves as a heading.
\nIn verse 2, the psalmist appeals to God not to be silent.
\nIn verses 3-9, he details the plot of the enemies to destroy all the people of Israel, and then lists specific enemy nations.
\nIn verses 10-16, he prays for the downfall of these enemies in the days of the Judges, by wind, fire and earthquakes.
\nIn verses 17-19, he concludes his prayer with the hope that the enemies will be ashamed, and will thus come to know that there is but one God who rules over the entire earth.<\/p>\n
