\nI hear the forest’s voice commanding me
\nTo fashion idols made of wood, and be
\nTheir loyal priest until the gods arrive.
\nDo ancient gods of ancient Canaan survive?
\nA goddess comes to incarnate a tree
\nAnd orders priests to prove their fealty
\nBy spilling seed so that the gods may thrive.<\/p>\n

O God of Israel, circumcise my heart;
\nRemove these shameful thoughts of shameful deeds
\nWhich grow profusely in my soul, and cure
\nMy field’s disease; or take away that part
\nOf me which cultivates and waters weeds.
