The psalm also opens with a reference to the tribes of Joseph &#8211; Ephraim and Menashe, as well as Joseph&#8217;s brother Benjamin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The image of the vine corresponds with the blessing that Jacob imparts to Joseph at the end of his life back in Genesis 49:22: \u201cJoseph is a fruitful vine. A fruitful vine by a fountain it&#8217;s branches run over a wall.&#8221; Asaph builds on this image of the tribes of Joseph. The image of a vineyard was also popular with many of the prophets, including Isaiah, chapters 1, 3, 5, 16, 24, 27, 34, 36, 61 etc. Later Ezekiel has two vivid prophecies about Israel as a vine in chapters 15 and 17. Depending on when Asaph lived, it&#8217;s possible he is playing off of these prophecies or these prophets are borrowing from
