  1. A Northern psalm<\/em>. Verses 2 and 3 sound like they are from the perspective of the Northern Kingdom, Israel: \u201cGive ear, O shepherd of Israel who leads Joseph like a flock!…. the head of Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh!\u201d The rest of the psalm sounds like it was written towards the end of the Kingdom, when it was weak and vulnerable, before its destruction in 720\/1 BCE.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Progressive chorus<\/em>. If you read the \u201cchorus\u201d that repeats itself three times, you\u2019ll see incremental differences (see verses 4,8 and 20) – what is the meaning of the changes? You are invited to expound\u2026.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Emotional eating<\/em>. See the image for suffering in verse 6: \u201cYou have fed them tears as their daily bread, made them drink great measures of tears.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Echoes of the parable of the vineyard.<\/em> 308 chapters ago, we encountered Isaiah\u2019s parable of the vineyard (Is. 5). Verses 9-17 in this psalm are very similar to that parable in the description of its care and then abandonment. But there is also a big difference. Isaiah\u2019s parable mentions the role of the vine, that is, the people, in the story, and the reason for the disappointment and the punishment: \u201cWhy, when I hoped it would yield grapes, Did it yield wild grapes?\u201d The psalm doesn\u2019t mention that side of it at all.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":53645,"id":53645,"title":"general-qs-points to
