  1. Connected psalms<\/em>. Psalm 79 is connected to Psalm 74. The common background to both is an attack on the Temple, and they have certain similar turns of phrase. Also, the question of historical provenance is the same:\u00a0 are we talking about the destruction of the First Temple by the Babylonians in 586 BCE, or the desecration of the Second Temple by the Greeks in the time of the Hasmoneans?<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Change of destination.<\/em> We can read verses 5-6 as a request to change the destination, the focus of divine wrath: \u201cHow long, O LORD, will You be angry?\u201d\u00a0 – with Your people. Instead, \u201cPour out Your fury on the nations that do not know You.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. For the 9th of Av and also Seder night<\/em>. This psalm is said in its entirety on Tish\u2019a B\u2019Av, and verses from it have found their way to other texts. Verse 6, \u201cPour out Your fury on the nations\u2026\u201d is part of the haggadah of Pesach.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":53645,"id":53645,"title":"general-qs-points to
