  1. Between a poem and a story. This psalm relates in poetic fashion historic events that are familiar from the books of Exodus and Numbers (and also Kings). It\u2019s interesting to compare the versions, and the perspectives. For instance, count how many of the plagues of Egypt are mentioned in verses 44 – 51.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Sympathy and understanding. The people sin and cause grief to God, over and over again. Nevertheless, the psalm presents both the anger, and the compassion: \u201cBut He, being merciful, forgave iniquity and would not destroy; He restrained His wrath time and again and did not give full vent to His fury; for He remembered that they were but flesh, a passing breath that does not return\u201d (38-39)<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. When exactly? Do verses 56-67 describe the destruction of the Temple at Shiloh in the days of Eli the Priest (alluded to 409 chapters ago in 1 Samuel 4)? Or the destruction of the Kingdom of Israel in the year 720 BCE (from 319 chapters ago, 2 Kings 17)? Both are possible interpretations.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. David the shepherd. King David is described as one who was taken from \u201cthe sheepfolds\u201d in order \u201cto tend His people Jacob\u201d and as a king, he is an outstanding shepherd, \u201cHe tended them with blameless heart; with skillful hands he led them\u201d (verses 70-72).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":53645,"id":53645,"title":"general-qs-points to
