Psalm 75:<\/p>\n

Author:<\/em>
\nAsaf–a composer of several psalms and a patriarch of a family of singers in the Beit HaMikdash (Temple).<\/p>\n

Genre:<\/em>
\nPsalm of Thanksgiving–This psalm emphasizes gratitude for what God has done.<\/p>\n

Chapter Summary:<\/em>
\nAsaf offers solace to the exiles by speaking of the redemption that will surely come. Ultimately, God will exact retribution against the nations and bring about the ingathering of His beloved people.<\/p>\n

This psalm consists of eleven verses, subdivided into four parts. The first two verses serve as a heading, in which Asaf praises God.
\nIn verses 3-4, the psalmist tells of God\u2019s promise to judge the world righteously and to set the world firmly on its foundations.
\nIn verses 5-8, he warns the wicked not to act arrogantly and not to put their trust in their successes, as true prosperity comes only from God.
\nIn verses 8-9, he describes how God gives the wicked poison to drink in order to punish them.
\nIn verse 10 and 11, he concludes by expressing his desire, and subsequently vows, to sing praises to God.<\/p>\n

Technical Terminology:
\nAl Tashcheit<\/em>–Do not destroy. This phrase is perhaps the author\u2019s, or printers, notation indicating that the associated manuscript was from another source, and should not be thrown away or destroyed.
\nSelah<\/em>–While its meaning is unclear, the most familiar opinion is that it is a musical notation, instructing the Levitical orchestra to pause its singing and playing of instruments. Alternatively, \u201cSelah” may mean \u201ceverlasting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shimush Tehillim-When to Say:<\/em>
\nFor forgiveness of sins–Verse 11 states: \u201cAnd all the horns [pride] of the wicked I will cut off, uplifted will be the pride of the righteous.<\/p>\n

Where in the Siddur:<\/em>
\nRecited in some traditions on the third through sixth days of Passover.<\/p>\n
