  1. Whenabouts<\/em>? In what historical period was the supplication prayer in this psalm written? The attack on the Temple is very present in this psalm. So are we talking about the destruction of the First Temple? Or perhaps, the desecration of the Second Temple during Hasmonean times? These and more are raised by commentators and scholars.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Ancient sea monsters<\/em>. Verses 13-14 describe the power of God in terms familiar to us from the Mesopotamian creation myths. The Creator God subdues the rebvellious sea monsters: \u201cit was You who drove back the sea with Your might, who smashed the heads of the monsters in the waters; it was You who crushed the heads of Leviathan…\u201d.<\/span><\/li>\n

The prayer for national salvation is not just for us, it\u2019s also for You, because hurting God\u2019s people is also an insult to the divine: \u201cBe mindful of how the enemy blasphemes the LORD,
