  1. Lil\u2019 Job.<\/em> The psalm deals in part with one of the big questions that the book of Job will grapple with. The question is of divine justice, and how we can live in the world where the righteous suffer, and the wicked prosper. The psalm is Job in miniature. By the way – the real Job will have a different existential answer. Only 109 chapters to go – stay tuned.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Pride goeth<\/em>. Verses 4-9 describe in very provocative, even monstrous terms, the haughty, successful and overfed, whose evil speech and ways are bringing destruction upon the earth: \u201cThey set their mouths against heaven, and their tongues range over the earth.\u201d (verse 9).<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Internal integrity<\/em>. Verses 15-16 provide a window into the troubled soul of the psalmist. On the one hand, he wants to throw off all restraints and be like the successful evil ones, but something inside him prevents him from doing so. He feels that that would be a betrayal of his belongingness to his people and to God, \u201c I should have been false to the circle of Your disciples.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Enlightenment<\/em>. The psalmist experienced a sort of epiphany that changed his life. This was how he referred to it: \u201cit seemed a hopeless task, till I entered God\u2019s sanctuary and reflected on their fate\u201d (verses 16-17). Was it a religious experience in the Temple? More of an internal conversion?
