I am sunk in the muddy depths without a foothold I have come into deep waters and a whirlpool has swept me away.&#8221;\u00a0 Without any lead-in to this image, the reader feels the suddenness of being whisked away by a whirlpool and stuck drowning.\u00a0 This image is taken to the next level when 13 verses later, David repeats the same introduction, but this time asking God not to allow these aquatic calamities to happen. The reader is now thrown back into the drowning feeling. It is almost as if David is sunk in the water, then splashes up for a breath of air whilst thrashing in the
