  1. Not easy<\/em>. We\u2019re not judging here, but Psalm 68 is one of the most difficult psalms to understand, if not the most. There are various topics, different rhythms, quotes from ancient sources, and even its own special vocabulary. Good luck!<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. A catalogue of early poetry<\/em>. The psalm includes quotes and paraphrases from earlier Biblical poetry. In verse 2, for instance, we can hear the Song of the Ark: \u201cAdvance, O LORD! May Your enemies be scattered, And may Your foes flee before You!\u201d (Num. 10:35). Verses 8-9 echo Deborah\u2019s song: \u201cO LORD, when You came forth from Seir, Advanced from the country of Edom, The earth trembled; The heavens dripped, Yea, the clouds dripped water,The mountains quaked\u2014 Before the LORD, Him of Sinai, Before the LORD, God of Israel\u201d (Judges 5:4-5). Likewise, there are verses that are reminiscent of the Song of Moses (Deut. 33). What do these quotes teach us about the psalm and its meaning? These are some of the questions that have been puzzling commentators throughout the generations.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. A match made in heaven<\/em>. According to verse 7 \u201cGod restores the lonely to their homes,\u201d which means – according to the midrash – that ever since God finished creating the world, He busies himself with making matches. And even for God, this is no easy task (see Gen. Rabbah 68:4).<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Imagine<\/em>. Verse 14 is a riddle within a riddle that invites us to imagine, even more than to interpret: \u201ceven for those of you who lie among the sheepfolds there are wings of a dove sheathed in silver, its pinions in fine gold.\u201d Feel free to interpret too.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":53645,"id":53645,"title":"general-qs-points to
