Russian singing is always a-capella, and creates an atmosphere of mystery in its hearers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The interest that Russo-Ukranian composers had in this great heritage only increased, as national ideologies which set apart Russain culture from the West increased. Gretchaninov was, on the one hand, a student of Taneyev (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.929.org.il\/lang\/en\/page\/617\/post\/83878\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">see Ps 50<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), the internationalist-formalist, but on the other, the highly regarded student of Rimsky-Korsakov, who was a nationalist. It was from this teacher that Gretchaninov learned the potential of liturgy as a means of expression of the Russian spirit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gretchaninov is considered one of the most important Russian composers of religious music.
