  1. What\u2019s the connection?<\/em> The first part is a public proclamation regarding national salvation. The second part is the expression of the individual. What\u2019s the connection between the two? Is the individual simply a part of the collective that was redeemed, or does he have his own personal salvation to give thanks for? Were these two separate psalms that were combined into one? What do you think?<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Echoes of miracles past<\/em>. Verse 6: \u201cHe turned the sea into dry land; they crossed the river on foot\u201d seems to hearken back to the Splitting of the Sea, and the crossing of the Jordan in dry land. If this psalm accompanied those who returned to Zion from the Babylonian exile, perhaps these are reminiscences of past miracles as part of an expectation for future divine favor.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. The taste of exile<\/em>. Verse 10 gives a theological justification for having been oppressed, and also an answer to the question \u201cWhere is God during times of trials and afflictions?\u201d It\u2019s not a historical accident – it\u2019s divine design.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. In fire and water<\/em>. That\u2019s from here. Verse 12: \u201cwe have endured fire and water,\u201d meaning – we\u2019ve been through a lot.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Share<\/em>. There is in both halves of the psalm the idea that it is important to share belief with others. In verse 5 the psalmist invites the whole world to \u201cCome and see the works of God.\u201d And in verse 16, the psalmist calls upon all to listen and learn from what he has experienced: \u201cCome and hear, all God-fearing men, as I tell what He did for me.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":53645,"id":53645,"title":"general-qs-points to
