Psalm 65:<\/p>\n

Author:<\/em>
\nKing David–the second king of Israel and father of the Davidic royal and messianic dynasty. David composed over seventy of the 150 psalms of Sefer Tehillim.<\/p>\n

Genre: <\/em>
\nPsalm of Praise–This is a psalm of celebration, often the result of a victory. It declares God\u2019s goodness and urges all of creation to worship.<\/p>\n

Chapter Summary:<\/em>
\nAfter God revealed the future site of the Beit HaMikdash (Temple), King David composed this psalm to express his longing for its erection and to glorify Har Tzion (Mount Zion). Taken literally, this psalm is a plea for rain in time of need, but can also be understood as alluding to the future exile of the Jewish people.
\nThis psalm consists of fourteen verses, subdivided into three parts. The first verse serves as a heading.
\nIn verses 2-5, the Psalmist admonishes that it is right to praise God and fulfill vows made to Him. He reminds us that God hears our prayers and forgives our sins. Closeness to Him, King David adds, leads to happiness.
\nIn verses 6-9, King David praises God as creator and ruler of the universe.
\nIn verses 10-14, he expresses thanksgiving for the abundant rain and bountiful year.<\/p>\n

Shimush Tehillim-When to Say:<\/em>
\nFor success in requesting favor from another–Verse 6 states: \u201cWith wondrous works, through [Your] righteousness, You answer us, God of our deliverance; [You are] the trust of all [inhabitants of] the ends of the earth and of the distant seas.\u201d<\/p>\n

Where in the Siddur:<\/em>
\nVerse 5 is recited as part of the Brit Milah (circumcision) ceremony; the first half of the verse is recited by the mohel, the second half by the congregants.<\/p>\n

Biblical Places:<\/em>
\n\u05d4\u05d9\u05db\u05dc–Heichal–Holy Temple–a term used to refer to the inner sanctuary of the Temple in Jerusalem. The Heichal contained the Holy of Holies, the resting place of the Aron HaKodesh (Holy Ark)*. It also housed the Menorah, Altar of Incense, and the Table of the Showbread.
\n*The Aron HaKodesh, while present in the first Beit HaMikdash (Temple) was buried, and hence its location was not known, during the period of the second Beit HaMikdash.
\n\u05e6\u05d9\u05d5\u05df–Zion–a place name often used as a synonym for Jerusaelm. The term Zion originally referred only to the area where a Jebbusite fortress once stood, also the location of the City of David. Zion was later used by the prophets and psalmists as another name for Jerusalem.<\/p>\n

Talmud on Tehillim:<\/em>
\nVerse 2: \u201cFor You silence is praise.\u201d
\nThe Talmud, Eiruvin 19a, deduces from this verse that unlike people sentenced to death by a human king, who need to be aggressively held back from cursing the king those who are killed by Divine decree accept their punishment in silence.<\/p>\n
