Different versions of this saying have appeared in multiple sources throughout history- from Thomas Jefferson to Napoleon, from Shakespeare to the Gemara.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One possible source is Psalm 64.\u00a0 Many of the psalms we have seen until now have dealt with the physical threat that David&#8217;s enemies posed and the behind the scenes machinations of his adversaries. In this psalm, he combines the two themes and attributes the words of his enemies to physical weapons, \u201dwho whet their tongues like swords; they aim their arrows\u2014cruel words\u2014to shoot from hiding at the blameless man; they shoot him suddenly and without fear.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But David realizes that while these words and conspiracies are mightier than the sword, God is mightier than them all.\u00a0 He ends the psalm noting that &#8220;then God shot them with an arrow, suddenly they were wounded&#8230;and all men feared and declared the work of God.&#8221;\u00a0 The words of man may be dangerous, but belief in God and his protection rules them
