\u201cHear my voice,O God, in my complaint; preserve my life from the terror of the enemy.\u00a0 Hide me from the council of evildoers, and from the tumult of the workers of iniquity.\u201d (Psalm 64:2-3)<\/span><\/p>\n

The Temple\u2019s candles have been lit,
\n<\/span>And the showbread, placed on the golden table.
\n<\/span>In incense-pans, coals sizzle.
\n<\/span>Altar-fire burns.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But no one is in the Temple:
\n<\/span>No pilgrim brings an offering,
\n<\/span>No kohen pours the wine libation,
\n<\/span>No Levite sings.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the vineyard, little foxes
\n<\/span><\/i>Run in herds, like rats
\n<\/span><\/i>In the garden, in the orchard,
\n<\/span><\/i>In the field of sacred apples.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Samson is not here
\n<\/span><\/i>To catch the foxes,
\n<\/span><\/i>To tie their tails
\n<\/span><\/i>With torches and firebrands.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Where are you, Samson?
\n<\/span>Exiled to a cemetery,
\n<\/span>Forced to drink bitter wine,
\n<\/span>Your locks of wavy hair all shaved by a razor?<\/span><\/p>\n

In the empty Temple courtyard, foxes eat grapes.
\n<\/span>Does no one at all hear the echoes
\n<\/span>Of our voices, hoarse and strained,
\n<\/span>As we cry?<\/span><\/p>\n

We, our hair now shorn,
\n<\/span>Cut to our skulls;
\n<\/span>We, as blind as you are, Samson,
\n<\/span>Eyeless in Gaza.<\/span><\/p>\n
