David composed over seventy of the 150 psalms of Sefer Tehillim.<\/p>\n<p><em>When and Why:<\/em><br \/>\nDavid wrote this Psalm when he discovered that Doeg and others were plotting to kill him.<\/p>\n<p><em>Genre:<\/em><br \/>\nPsalm of Individual Lament&#8211;This psalm was written from the perspective of the individual worshipper, who cries out to God in his time of need. It is characterized as an address to God involving a complaint, followed by a request and ending with an expression of trust.<\/p>\n<p><em>Chapter Summary:<\/em><br \/>\nThis and the preceding psalm are based on the episode of the spear and the jar which David had taken from King Saul while hiding from him. This psalm also alludes to our present exile. We have been driven from our land and know not what each new day brings. Nevertheless, the Psalmist concludes, \u201cThe righteous will rejoice in God, and will take refuge in Him, and all the upright in heart will glory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The psalm consists of eleven verses, subdivided into five parts. The first verse serves as a heading.<br \/>\nIn verses 2 &amp; 3, King David appeals to God to protect him from the wicked.<br \/>\nIn verses 4-7, he describes the evil deeds of the wicked and their plots against the innocent man.<br \/>\nIn verses 8 &amp; 9, he further depicts the downfall of the wicked.<br \/>\nIn verse 10, the Psalmist relates how the news of the downfall will be reported throughout the world.<br \/>\nIn verse 11, he concludes by appealing to the righteous to rejoice in God.<\/p>\n<p><em>Introductory Words:<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Lemnatsei\u2019ach<\/em>&#8211;To the Conductor <br \/>\n<em>Mizmor<\/em>&#8211;Musical Accompaniment<\/p>\n<p><em>Shimush Tehillim&#8211;When to Say:<\/em><br \/>\nTo safely cross a river&#8211;Verse 2 states: \u201cHear, God, my voice in my fervent prayer from the terror of the enemy preserve my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excerpted from <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From Your Lips To God\u2019s Ears<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, by Reuben Ebrahimoff available on Amazon.<\/span><\/p>\n","image":{"ID":79908,"id":79908,"title":"psalms -
