“O God, You are my God, I will seek You earnestly; my soul thirsts for You, my flesh longs for You, in a dry and weary land without water.” (63:2)<\/p>\n

\nForever, so it seems, we’ve waited for
\nThe promised rains to fall; but still the rains
\nRefuse to come and wash away the stains
\nOf brilliant, blinding blue that smudge and flaw
\nOur cloudless sky. The sun, a dragon’s claw
\nThat scratches desiccated fields, retains
\nIts scorching heat as greedily it drains
\nOur streams while verdant meadows turn to straw.<\/p>\n

Without Your word, will we remain alive,
\nO Lord? Let thunder burst, for we are cursed
\nBy deafness and by drought, and though we strain,
\nWe do not hear Your voice. Can we survive
\nFor long without a drop to slake our thirst \u2014
\nOur thirst for You? O drench us now with
