Psalm 62:<\/p>\n

Author:<\/em>
\nKing David–the second king of Israel and father of the Davidic royal and messianic dynasty. David composed over seventy of the 150 psalms of Sefer Tehillim; possibly composed for Yedutun–a noted singer and composer of several psalms.<\/p>\n

When and Why:<\/em>
\nDavid wrote this psalm when he was in the desolate Judean desert hiding from Saul. In it, he prays to God to allow him to return to God\u2019s city, Jerusalem.<\/p>\n

Genre:<\/em>
\nPsalm of Individual Confidence–in this psalm, the worshipper expresses absolute certainty that his prayers will be heard.<\/p>\n

Chapter Summary:<\/em>
\nKing David addresses his soul, encouraging it to trust in God in times of trouble. He also directly speaks to his enemies who conspire to do evil against him. Finally, he concludes with an admonition and a reminder that God judges the earth.<\/p>\n

This psalm consists of thirteen verses, subdivided into two parts, each of which opens with a refrain (verses 2-3 and 6-7 respectively) conveying the idea that the Psalmist trusts only in God. The first verse serves as a heading.
\nIn verses 4 and 5, King David describes the treacherous deeds of the wicked and addresses his enemies directly.
\nIn verses 8-13, he addresses all God-fearing individuals, urging them to have faith that God will protect them and punish their enemies. Like vapor, asserts the Psalmist, one\u2019s enemies, too, are but temporary.<\/p>\n

\nYedutun–perhaps a musical instrument; alternatively, the name of a singer and\/or composer.<\/p>\n

Shimush Tehillim:<\/em>
\nTo build trust in God–Verse 9 states: \u201cTrust in Him at all times, people; pour out your hearts before Him, God is a refuge for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Where in the Siddur:<\/em>
\nVerse 9 is recited by some following Ma\u2019ariv (evening service) of Sunday night and the Minchah (afternoon service) of Monday afternoon. <\/p>\n
